History
Standard Solar was founded in 2004 by solar energy pioneer, Neville Williams, who together with PV industry veterans Tony Clifford, Lee Bristol and Gerry Braun launched the Company's operations in Maryland. Standard Solar's first residential customer was Rhone Resch, president of the Solar Energy Industries Association. Standard Solar was founded with the goal of solving the world’s energy and environmental challenges through renewable energy applications. Since then Standard Solar has helped nearly 1000 households achieve their goal of energy independence.
In 2007 Standard Solar expanded their business to include commercial, government and academic installations. With complete design, procurement, construction, financing, and maintenance capabilities in house, Standard Solar quickly became the clear cut choice for any and all solar electric system solutions. During that year Standard Solar designed and installed what was then the largest solar electric system between New Jersey and Florida: a 205 kW array atop the U.S. Department of Energy Forrestal Building Headquarters in Washington, DC. Since then Standard Solar has installed large solar arrays at numerous locations throughout the Mid-Atlantic region including the University of Delaware, GSA’s Terry Sanford Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse,George Washington Carver Elementary School of St. Mary’s County Public School System (SMCPS), Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) and Kelly & Sons Electrical Construction in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
In 2009 Standard Solar launched Standard Energy Solutions (SES). SES performs in-depth energy assessments for homes and businesses to offer customers simple and dependable energy improvements and solar energy solutions. Based on the analysis of these assessments, SES offers retrofit energy saving solutions ranging from insulation, to window sealing, to solar installations and more.In addition to private projects, SES is a proud participant in all the local utilities’ Home Performance with ENERGY STAR programs .
In 2010 Standard Solar added utility and agricultural projects to their portfolio. With a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed with American Municipal Power (AMP), Standard Solar is installing 300MWs of solar projects throughout the Midwest region. In addition, Standard Solar is underway installing multiple large scale agricultural solar projects in Delaware and Maryland. Standard Solar is teaming with partners to provide the clear cut turnkey solution to all their customer’s energy issues.
Today Standard Solar employs more than 80 dedicated advocates of solar energy and energy efficiency solutions and is leading homeowners, businesses, government agencies and educational institutions into a cleaner energy era out of its headquarters in Rockville, Maryland, about 15 miles north of Washington, DC. Standard Solar continues to expand its regional footprint working with residential and commercial customers throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Ohio.
