Homeowners throughout Virginia have access to the much-improved 30% Federal Investment Tax Credit through 2016. This allows homeowners investing in solar electric systems to claim a credit -- not a deduction -- of the entire cost of designing and installing a solar panel system on that year's income tax return. The amount claimed is to be the net amount the remains after any state and local incentives.
The Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME), Division of Energy will provide up to $15 million in rebates for energy efficiency measures and equipment to retrofit homes and commercial property, and up to $15 million in rebates for renewable energy equipment and systems for residential and commercial applications.
